File - Analyze DBF/ASCII Database

Use this function only when you have a data file that lacks an accompanying EZSurvey form (.EZF file).

EZReport requires both a form definition file (.ezf or .frm) and a data file (.dbf, .dat or .asc) to be able to generate reports. The Analyze DBF/ASCII Database feature allows you to create a form definition file if none exist, allowing you to use EZReport with databases not created by Raosoft products.

To do this:

  1. Go to File Analyze DBF/ASCII Database. You will be prompted for a data file. Browse to find the appropriate database file on your computer. Select the file and click Open.
  2. When creating the form definition file, the software will have to guess the question type, question text, and response text of each question. In the current window you can make modifications to the form that was created by EZReport by clicking on a question and modifying the properties or using the Edit menu.
  3. When you are done making changes to the form click File Save. Browse to the appropriate folder. Choose a name for the form definition file.   DO NOT choose the name of an existing .EZF file unless you intend to overwrite it. Then click Save. This file will now be created and named with an .ezf extension.
  4. Now the newly created Edit Form is ready to be opened using File Open Form.
